The ICO has published details of its recent guidance on keeping employment records. The ‘About this guidance’ page explains the many issues covered in the guidance, which are set out under three main headings (see below), and how firms should approach it.
- Keeping records about workers is a necessary part of running an organisation and data protection law applies whenever firms process their workers’ personal information.
- The main sections in the guidance are About this guidance, Collecting and keeping employment records, Using employment records, and Checklists.
- The new guidance has been designed for firms to read alongside the ICO’s other published guidance on data protection and employment – in particular, its detailed guidance on information about workers’ health and monitoring workers.
